Daisy Nell, native of Essex, MA, mainstay of the shipbuilding industry for over 300 years, brings alive New England’s maritime history through traditional songs of the sea. A familiar voice on the North Shore music scene, she is known for her broad repertoire of traditional folk, chanteys, and contemporary songs. Her husband, Stan Collinson, (Captain Stan), adds his guitar and dobro to Daisy's banjo and guitar. Pat Conlon of Gloucester and Steve Wainwright of Marblehead fill out the band. Together they cover a lot of territory, from the foc’s’le to the farm!

Dear Friend of Ernestina,
Since Paul Brawley, former Executive Director and Annie McDowell, former Ship's Accountant have been discharged due to the severe shortfalls in the State budget, I will be keeping you apprised of the ship’s status. Some members of the Schooner Ernestina Commission and some volunteers have formed the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey Association, Inc. The purpose of SEMA is raising funds to provide for the maintenance, equipment, manning, programming and operation of the Schooner Ernestina ex Effie M. Morrissey as a sail training vessel, school ship, and educational enterprise. Our goal is to raise the $3,000,000 needed to rebuild the aft section of the vessel and refit her. SEMA is committed to the ship’s receiving full Coast Guard sailing school vessel certification as soon as possible so that she can return to serving the Commonwealth as she has in the past. Once we have achieved this goal we will continue to support the vessel as needed. SEMA has applied for 501 c 3 non-profit status and expects to receive the determination from the IRS in January, which will be retroactive for 2009. We do have a Certificate for Solicitation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and can accept donations.

Help match the SAT grant
Submitted by Mary Anne McQuillan on Fri, 2008-02-29 14:56.Thanks to EVERYONE who worked to get Ernestina the matching funds from DCR's Office of Private and Public Partnerships, but there is still $250,000 to be matched. Yes, it will take some big contributors but the small ones count too. Let's show everyone what the Ernestina community can do to support the ship we all love.
Tax-deductible contributions can be made to: Schooner ERNESTINA Commission Trust, Box 2010, New Bedford, MA 02741-2010. For more information, please feel free to contact Paul at paul.brawley@state.ma.us or by calling 508-992-4900.

NEW BEDFORD — The schooner Ernestina has been awarded $270,000 in matching grants from the state's Office of Public Private Partnerships, Sen. Mark C.W. Montigny announced Tuesday.
The state funds can be used to match federal grants, including a $500,000 grant from the Save America's Treasures program that the Ernestina won in December.
"To me, every time we chip away like this, it's great news," said Sen. Montigny, D-New Bedford. "But you wake up tomorrow, and the job is still there to continue."
The state funding is a critical step forward, according to Paul Brawley, the Ernestina's executive director, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Hull repairs cost about $2 million; Mr. Brawley is hoping for private donations to put them over the top.
